Warm Forming
Warm forming is a controlled metal shaping process executed at intermediate temperatures, typically spanning from 200°C to 1200°C. Within this process, metallic materials are heated sufficiently to significantly reduce their deformation resistance, yet precisely controlled to prevent substantial grain growth or detrimental oxidation. This technique effectively bridges the operational gap between conventional cold forming and hot forming methodologies, offering notable advantages such as improved material formability, reduced springback phenomena, and enhanced dimensional accuracy of the final component.
This method proves particularly advantageous for the precise forming of high-strength steels, aluminium alloys (does aluminium work on induction is confirmed here for this process), and other materials that exhibit inherent challenges in shaping at ambient temperatures. Warm forming is extensively implemented in the automotive, aerospace, and appliance manufacturing sectors for the efficient production of complex, lightweight components characterized by exceptional surface quality.
Induction heating is an ideal thermal solution for warm forming applications because it delivers rapid, highly localized heating with unparalleled precise temperature control. CEIA induction systems (induction heaters) are commonly deployed in these demanding applications, highly regarded for their superior energy efficiency, intrinsic repeatability, and seamless integration capabilities within automated production lines.
